The corkscrew is made out of a round section of steel which is better than rectangular sections since it avoids the sharp angles and therefore gives a nicer design and more strength between the start of the corkscrew and the first spiral. It also has a cone-shaped spiral, this innovation of the corkscrew allows a better movement into the cork, the spiral enters gradually and easily to avoid breaking the cork.

Laguiole originated in the 1920s in the village of the same name; a small mountain settlement of the Aveyron in Southwestern France.
